Scott Sinclair struck his fourth goal of the season and Danny Graham his fifth as Swansea City won for the first time on home soil in six weeks.

But Dutch keeper Michel Vorm was the real Swansea hero after saving an 87th-minute penalty from Clint Dempsey.

Coming into the game, it was 14 goals in as many matches for last season’s Championship play-off final winners. It was a return that fell some way short of manager Brendan Ridgers’ high expectations.

Unfortunately, despite some wonderful approach play in the opening quarter, they were once again a little goal-shy as first Lerory Lita and then Luke Moore failed to find the target during a period of intense pressure from the home side.

Fulham’s approach was an all-too-familiar one this season. Eight men behind the ball and precious little ambition, despite the obvious frailty of a Swansea back four that leaked four goals at Blackburn seven days ago.

A Clint Dempsey free kick was all they could muster, in terms of a chance, inside the opening 20 minutes, although when Andy Johnson found himself alone in the 18 yard box, it took a timely interception from Ashley Williams to avert the danger.

Williams popped up to head over Mark Gower’s measured cross on half an hour, and after Scott Sinclair’s free-kick had been deflected over his own bar by Johnson, somewhat fortuitously, Moore sent a 25-yard drive inches over.

The deadlock was broken 11 minutes into the second half when Fulham failed to clear a corner from Gower. Routledge’s shot found Sinclair and when the former Chelsea winger struck his effort goalwards, Dempsey stuck out a leg and succeeded only in diverting the ball passed Schwarzer.

Bryan Ruiz should have levelled matters a minute later but Vorm’s point-blank save came to Swansea’s rescue.

Vorm produced two further stops of real quality and then beat away Dempsey’s spot-kick after Karim Frei had been brought down by Jazz Richards. Graham made sure in stoppage time.
