Michael Laudrup has revealed that Chelsea wanted him to become their new manager – ahead of Jose Mourinho.

Reports in Portugal say Stamford Bridge bosses made an enquiry for the Swansea boss last summer.

That interest came when Laudrup’s future was in doubt over the Swans’ transfer policy.

Laudrup – whose side knocked out Chelsea on their way to a Capital One Cup triumph last season – revealed on Swansea’s pre-season tour of the Netherlands that he was in demand from “big clubs” over the summer following his success at the Liberty Stadium.

But the Dane has named Chelsea for the first time and suggests he was the man Roman Abramovich wanted before sealing the return of the Special One.

Laudrup said in a Portuguese newspaper: “Someone from Chelsea wanted to know about my availability, but there was never anything concrete.”
