Everton manager David Moyes has stressed they are not a selling club and dismissed suggestions a deal to sell midfielder Jack Rodwell to Manchester United has already been agreed.

The 20-year-old has been linked to a mega move to Old Trafford in the summer. But Moyes said that was ‘rubbish’ as the club wanted to hang on to their best players.

‘We have let two players go in my time in Wayne Rooney (to United) and Joleon Lescott (to Manchester City) who I couldn’t keep hold of.

‘Steven Pienaar (sold to Tottenham in January) was coming out of contract and we got an offer, otherwise we wouldn’t have let him go.

‘All the other ones in the time I have been here we have felt it was the right time for them to go. We will only let people go if we think it is the right thing to do.’
