Robbie Fowler could make a surprise return to England by signing for Blackpool.

The Liverpool legend is training with the Seasiders with a view to signing for the remainder of the season.

Boss Ian Holloway hopes Fowler’s experience could help their drive for the Championship play-offs.

In a series of tweets on their Twitter page, the club said: ‘Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has trained with the club today with a view to signing a permanent deal.

‘No deal has yet been agreed but Ian Holloway revealed in his press conference that the striker has impressed and is close to full fitness.’

The striker, who last played on these shores for cardiff in 2008, has enjoyed spells in Australia and Thailand in the autumn of his career.

Blackpool striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who is a big Liverpool fan, said on Twitter: ‘Training was a bit religious today. The sun was shining an GOD (Robbie Fowler) came to train with us for a few days. #LEGEND.’

Fowler is the fourth highest goalscorer in the history of the Premier League with 163 goals.

Blackpool play Hull on Friday night but it is unlikely Fowler would be ready in time for that match.
