Thierry Henry will not be allowed to extend his loan spell at Arsenal, according to his parent club, the New York Red Bulls.

The Gunners brought their record goalscorer back to the Emirates in January to provide cover during the Africa Cup of Nations.

Henry, 34, has scored two goals in his five appearances and is due to return to the MLS on February 17.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had hoped to extend the deal to enable Henry to play in the North London derby against Tottenham at the end of this month.

But Bulls coach Hans Backe has insisted the Frenchman will return next week.

‘When I spoke to him [Henry], he told me that he was 100 per cent coming back on February 17,’ he said.

‘What I know, it’s only rumours. I haven’t heard anything from them about extending the loan.’

Unless the deal is extended, Henry’s last match will be against AC Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday.
