Fernando Torres has vowed to repay Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s faith in him after the Russian billionaire set a new British transfer record when he paid £50 million to take the striker from Liverpool a fortnight ago.

Torres failed to make any instant repayments as he disappointed on his debut against his former club. But, set to start against Fulham this evening he is determined to thank Abramovich for moving for him.

”As a striker I’m asked for goals so I’ll pay in goals,” he told the Sun. ”I still haven’t seen Roman Abramovich. To put so much money down for me speaks of his dreams to keep on making history.

”We want to repay him for this effort. I have to pay my debt on the pitch. It’s beautiful he paid so much for me.”
