Manchester United and Arsenal have both ruled out the possibility of taking David Beckham on loan this winter.

The former England captain had said he would only return to the Premier League with Manchester United where he won six titles before moving to Real Madrid in 2003, but Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson says he wouldn’t sign his former player becuase of his age.

“I don’t think so with David at his age,” said Ferguson. “I have never signed a player at that age have I?”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said he much admires Beckham’s professionalism but will not try to sign him because he already has plenty of midfielders in his squad.

The Gunners boss said: “I would consider signing David Beckham, but we have (Theo) Walcott, (Samir) Nasri, (Tomas) Rosicky, (Andrey) Arshavin and (Emmanuel) Eboue who can play on the flanks.”
