Chelsea have had a second bid rejected for Wayne Rooney, thought to be £25m plus add-ons, Manchester United have confirmed.

The Blues are desperate to land the unhappy United forward – having had a £20m bid turned down last month.

A United spokesman said: “A bid was received yesterday and immediately rejected. Our position remains that he is not for sale.”

The England striker is thought to be considering handing in transfer request to force a move out of Old Trafford – having fallen down the pecking order to Robin van Persie last season.

Moyes has claimed Rooney is going nowhere but didn’t endear himself to the striker as he revealed he will play second fiddle to Van Persie this season.

United could though, let Rooney leave Old Trafford but only want to sell him to a team abroad, and not to a direct Premier League rival.

United are flying to Sweden today to prepare for a friendly with AIK before returning to England for Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial against Sevilla and then the Charity Shield clash with Wigan.
