Skysports.com understands Wigan Athletic have agreed a £4million deal to sign goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi from Bolton Wanderers on a permanent basis.

Al Habsi impressed during a loan spell at Wigan last season and his form earned the Oman international the club’s Player of the Year award.

He dislodged Chris Kirkland as the Latics’ first choice during the early weeks of the campaign and manager Roberto Martinez has been eager to agree a permanent deal.

Wigan had already seen three bids rejected by their Premier League rivals, but have now settled on a £4million fee.

The keeper had struggled for first-team football during his time at Bolton and Trotters boss Owen Coyle is happy to let Al Habsi go now Wigan have made an acceptable offer.

“We could easily have kept him but I have to be fair to Ali,” said Coyle.

“It is good business. If that is concluded, we will wish him well.

“He did well at Wigan last year and they have tried to secure his services.”

Al Habsi joined Bolton in January 2006, but made just 18 appearances during his time at the Reebok Stadium due to the consistent form of Jussi Jaaskelainen.
