Arsene Wenger is primed to make a double swoop on French Ligue 1 side Lorient for midfielder Morgan Amalfitano and highly coveted striker Kevin Gameiro.

The Arsenal boss has identified the two players as he begins the task of putting together a side which can end the club’s six-year trophyless spell.

And he believes Amalfitano 26, and Gameiro, 24, are two of the moves which will bring the first piece of silverware to the Emirates.

Gameiro has been prolific in front of goal this season and has been watched by a number of Premier League clubs, including north London rivals Tottenham, Sunderland and Newcastle and would cost his potential suitors a fee in the region of £15million.

Amalfitano has been tracked by a series of Europe’s elite and is available on a free transfer at the end of this season and has made it clear that his furture lies away from his current employers and is keen to move to a bigger club.

‘I have not made a decision yet, but the time has come to look elsewhere. I am 26 now and I am ready to move abroad. If a big French club want me, I am open to it, but otherwise I will probably move abroad,’ he told Foot01.

The Gunners are likely to offload Nicklas Bendtner in the summer to fund the move and Wenger is also hoping to tie Samir Nasri down to a long-term contract.
