Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has said that Arsenal and Manchester United target Remy Cabella will not be allowed to leave in January, but that it could be a different story in the summer.

Cabella – who has been called the next Zinedine Zidane – has been linked with a move to the Gunners or United, with Montpellier manager even saying the player should be allowed to leave if the club received a bid of £15m.But it now seems the French side have reconsidered and will now try and hold onto the player until the end of the season, after fighting off interest from Marseille in the last transfer window.

Asked about the likelihood of a transfer for Cabella, Nicollin told Le10Sport: “You would have to ask my son [deputy chairman of Montpellier, Laurent Nicollin] about transfers.

“I am not aware of anything.

“No, there was strong interest from OM [Marseille] last summer but we wanted to keep him.”

And speaking about the player’s commitment to Montpellier, Nicollin added: “I welcome the attitude of Remy, who has talked of leaving and who understood our position.

“He’s a great player and there will be opportunities for him [to leave] next summer.”

It now remains to be seen whether Arsenal and United will still hold an interest in the 23-year-old come June or whether their midfield vacancies will be filled in January.
