beckenbauer-guardiolaFranz Beckenbauer has pleaded with Pep Guardiola not to leave Bayern Munich and join Manchester City at the end of the season.

Guardiola has reportedly told his former Barcelona colleague and City director of football Txiki Begiristain that he intends to take up the job next summer.

The former Barcelona manager’s three-year contract at the Allianz Arena expires at the end of the current campaign and he has not agreed a new deal.

He is thought to be open to a new challenge, while he has always stated his desire to move to England, with City known to be admirers of him.

Manuel Pellegrini’s position could come under threat if City fail to win the Premier League this season, despite the Chilean signing a new two year deal at the start of this campaign.

But Bayern honorary president Beckenbauer doesn’t want Guardiola to leave, despite the Spaniard still having failed to win the Champions League with the Bundesliga giants.

Beckenbauer told German newspaper Bild: “In the Bible it says: What belongs together, should not be separated. I told him that I would be happy if he stays. We simply fit together.”
