Arsenal are bracing themselves for a bid from Borussia Dortmund for Serge Gnabry after Jurgen Klopp targeted the Germany Under 19 winger as part of a summer recruitment drive.

Stunned by Dortmund’s recent fall to fourth in the Bundesliga table, Klopp has vowed to strengthen his squad with major signings in the summer and has included Gnabry on his wanted list.

It is understood the Dortmund coach has had Arsenal’s teenage forward watched at least once and is considering putting Arsene Wenger to the test with an offer, either this month or at the end of the season.

After pledging to build a title-winning team at The Emirates, Wenger would surely resist all attempts to lure the highly-rated 18-year old away, and Sportsmail understands there are further grounds for optimism over Gnabry’s future.

While Klopp has been alerted to his potential, it is believed he is more concerned with recruiting a top-quality like-for-like replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who will join Bayern Munich on a five-year deal in the summer.

CSKA Moscow’s Seydou Doumbia is already in his sights, and he accepts that filling the gap left by Lewandowski’s departure may take up most, if not all, his transfer budget.
