Chelsea are serious about competing with Real Madrid for Colombian striker Radamel Falcao in January.

Reports in France suggest that instead of holding off until the summer Chelsea will make a pre-emptive strike in the upcoming transfer window in an attempt to bring the hitman to Stamford Bridge.
It is thought that Portugese winger Cristiano Ronaldo has personally appealed to Real president Florentino Perez to sign Falcao but Chelsea are preparing to rival the Spanish giants.According to Le10Sportthere are a number of factors in Chelsea’s favour in the race to sign the 27-year-old.Firstly, Monaco are looking to offload Falcao in order to comply with UEFA’s incoming financial FairPlay regulations.

Secondly, the relationship between Monaco owner Dmitry Rybolovlev and fellow Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich could smooth the way for a transfer. Finally, Falcao is represented by Portugese agent Jorge Mendes, who also happens to be the agent of Blues boss Jose Mourinho. Also advantageous as far as Chelsea are concerned is the fact that Falcao remains eligible for the latter stages of the Champions League, with Monaco not playing in Europe this season.

It now remains to be seen however, whether a fee can be agreed and whether Falcao would want a move to London, having previously played in Madrid with Atletico Madrid before moving to Spain.
