Chelsea are tracking two French youngsters – Marseille midfielder Giannelli Imbula and Porto centre-back Eliaquim Mangala – as they prepare their moves for the January transfer market.

Imbula, 21, has also been watched by Arsenal and has impressed for Marseille after breaking into Elie Baup’s side this season.

And Mangala, a 22-year-old France international, has been linked with a host of top European sides including Manchester United and Manchester City.

David Moyes is thought to be considering a New Year bid for Mangala, but he could be pipped to the post by Chelsea rival Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is targeting Imbula after deciding that Juventus star Paul Pogba is too expensive at £40million.

Express Sport understands that Chelsea are still interested in former Manchester United midfielder Pogba, but are more likely to move for cheaper alternative Imbula as well as Mangala in January.

Imbula is valued at around £25m by Marseille, while Mangala has a £37m release clause at Porto but could be sold for less.

The Blues see Mangala as a potential long-term replacement for the ageing John Terry and have extensively scouted the powerful defender over the last 12 months.

Chelsea could have to pay in excess of £50m to land the pair, as the West London outfit look to inject some youth into their squad at Stamford Bridge.
