Ruben-Neves-Porto1Liverpool are targeting £20m Porto teenager Ruben Neves.

But far from becoming new boss Jurgen Klopp’s first signing the Reds may have to wait until next summer to land him.

Club scouts were in Portugal on Friday night to watch him in action for his country’s U21s against Hungary.

Neves, 18, is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Europe.

And Liverpool can expect fierce competition for his signature if they decide to make a move, with Chelsea also reportedly interested.

First team coach Pep Lijnders worked with the midfielder during his time at Porto.

It is believed he recommended the player to Liverpool and Klopp is also believed to be a fan.

Neves broke into the Porto team aged just 17 and has impressed in Portugal’s top tier.

It is likely Porto would demand a fee in excess of £20m.

But Liverpool are not expected to make any move before next summer’s transfer window.

Klopp will have the final say on any moves in or out even though he has agreed to work within the club’s transfer committee.
