Manchester City are set to miss out on top transfer targets Fernando and Eliaquim Mangala after a change of heart by Porto.

The Portuguese side were willing to let the pair strike deals with Manuel Pellegrini’s team, but have called the moves off after failing to find adequate replacements.

City were prepared to pay £35million for the midfielder and defender, but it seems that Porto are not willing to sanction the transfers until the summer.

Early reports suggested that the players were due to board a private jet to Manchester in the early afternoon, but the aircraft never left Portugal.

Missing out on the highly-rated duo is a bitter blow for Pellegrini, who has no other options lined up.

The Chilean could yet return before the deadline with an offer closer to £50million as he prepares for Chelsea’s visit to the Etihad on Monday.
