Monaco are set to rival Galatasaray in the race to sign Nemanja Vidic on a free transfer this summer.

The Manchester United defender’s agent Silvano Martina has confirmed the Serbian is almost certain to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season.

‘At the moment, I would rule out an extension with Manchester United,’ said Martina.

‘Vidic, given his contract situation, has several teams looking at him. For the time being we remain calm.’

And Ligue 1 side Monaco are showing a big interest in taking Vidic on a Bosman transfer when his deal at United elapses.

Vidic is now allowed to discuss a potential free transfer away from United with foreign clubs.

Sportsmail revealed on Sunday how Galatasaray will offer the United defender up to £3.4million a season after tax and the prospect of a four year contract.

The Turkish club’s attempts to sign the 32-year-old are being brokered by UK-based deal fixer Muzzi Ozcan, and it is understood Galatasaray are currently leading the chase to sign Vidic this summer.

Nevertheless, Monaco want to go toe-to-toe with the Turkish giants for Vidic and believe they have the funds to compete.

Speaking yesterday Galatasaray manager Roberto Mancini ruled out a January move for Vidic due to the fact his cup tied for the Champions League this season.

But he did say: ‘Every manager would want a player as experienced as him [Vidic] on their team. He is the type of player who can really make a difference.’
