Thomas Muller wants talks with Bayern Munich over his future after being tempted by a possible reunion with Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United.
Muller is on record as saying he has a ‘special relationship’ with Van Gaal but has always previously insisted that he sees his future at Bayern. However, some time away from his club with the German national team appears to have given the 24-year-old second thoughts about staying put in Germany.
Indeed, he now wants clarity on his role moving forward with the German champions before committing his future to the club.
He told Bild: “I have come to a point where I want to know if I am an important part of the future starting line-up in Bavaria.
“And [I need to know] if the club really has plans for me in the coming years.
“That is why I have asked for a conversation.”
Last month Muller said: “It’s no secret that Louis van Gaal and I have a relationship that goes a little beyond the normal relationship between coaches and players.”[But] I have a contract with Bayern Munich until summer 2017.
“I am really enjoying playing for Bayern.
“There really is nothing better than this.”
However, it now seems the player’s change of heart could play into United’s hands if Muller doesn’t get the assurances he is after in the upcoming meeting with Bayern chiefs.
