Bayern star Xherdan Shaqiri may soon be heading to England and could alert the attention of Manchester United and Liverpool, claims his brother.

Erdin Shaqiri, who also acts as his agent, told the Swiss paper Blick: ‘If clubs like United, Liverpool or Inter were to come calling, we’d listen.

‘Xherdan is 22. At his age you need to be playing regularly, and that’s not the case.’

The marauding Swiss midfielder joined the reigning European Champions for £10.5m from FC Basel in 2012, and has so far made 72 appearances for Bayern in all competitions.

Many of those have been as a substitute, however, with the left footed attacker almost always playing second fiddle to French star Franck Ribery.

Bayern coach Pep Guardiola recently described the Swiss as his ‘most important substitute. When he comes on the pitch, something happens within ten minutes.’

Shaqiri’s terrier like approach to the game often belies his game intelligence and ball control, but it is undoubtedly his pace, strength on the ball and all round energy which make him perfect for the role of super sub.  Nor is he averse to scoring the odd goal, with six in all competitions this season.

But his brother is now increasing the pressure on Bayern to use the Swiss as a more central figure.
The Shaqiris are reportedly waiting until the summer to make a firm decision, though it is unlikely that the situation will change before then. The Swiss international’s contract runs until 2016, and he would probably cost any buyer upwards of £15m this summer.

Even when not playing on the left, Shaqiri faces tough competition from Bayern’s immensely well equipped attacking troupe, and he is not the first player to have shown some discomfort at Pep Guardiola’s rotation policy.
