Ally McCoist has confirmed that he has agreed a fee with Aston Villa for the former Ibrox defender Carlos Cuéllar and reiterated his interest in the Bursaspor striker Kenny Miller, another ex-Rangers player.

McCoist, who oversaw his first win as Rangers manager since taking over from Walter Smith with a 4-1 friendly win over Linfield in Belfast, told Sky Sports News: “There is still a little bit of work to be done there. A fee has been agreed and in an ideal world we’ll get the deal done and get Carlos up here to join us. He was a wonderful player for us, very well thought of.” Villa signed Cuéllar for £7.8m in August 2008.

On the issue of Miller, who left Rangers for Turkey in January, McCoist said: “That’s a possibility. We haven’t been in touch with Bursaspor, but I wouldn’t rule out anything at this stage. We are certainly looking to bring in three or four players into the squad before facing Hearts next Saturday.”
