Lukas Podolski Arsenal vs SouthamptonWolfsburg have joined the rase to sign Lukas Podolski for £9.5million as Juventus stall over their interest in the Arsenal striker.

The Bundesliga outfit are in search of a goalscorer before the transfer window closes and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger appears keen to offload the German World Cup winner, who is yet to make an appearance this season.

And with Juve turning their attention to Monaco forward Radamel Falcao, Wolfsburg have the opportunity to swoop in for 29-year-old Podolski before deadline day.

Juve will only make a move for Podolski if they cannot capture Colombian Falcao, who transferred to Monaco just last summer for £52m.

According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Wolfsburg will offer Podolski a three-year contract but the decision still lies in the hands of Wenger, who may seek a squad replacement before agreeing to sell.

Were he to move to the Volkswagen Arena, Podolski will team up with reject Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner, who sealed his move to the Bundesliga earlier this month.

Although the Dane missed his new club’s season opener against Bayern Munich on Friday, Wolfsburg director of sport Klaus Allofs has been impressed with the striker.

“He’s in his prime and, although his career has not always gone smoothly, he’s still been able to gain plenty of international experience,” Allofs said when Bendtner signed.

“With his ability, he’s going to raise the quality of our attack.”
