Benitez & Ronalso

Rafa Benitez has played down an alleged training ground bust-up with Cristiano Ronaldo and insists he wants all his players to be like the superstar.

Spanish media reported this week that the Portuguese attacker had slammed one of Benitez’s skills sessions.

They showed footage of Ronaldo working out in Melbourne ahead of Friday’s clash against Manchester City and used lip reading experts to claim he’d called a crossbar challenge set up by his manager as “s**t”.

The former Manchester United man was also angry at having a goal disallowed in a training match and seemed to say, ‘He gives everything against the Portuguese’.

But Benitez says Ronaldo simply has a powerful will to win and wishes all his squad had the same attitude.

“I am lucky to have had the opportunity to spend a few days with him (in Australia) and have chatted a lot,” the Real boss said.

“He is competitive and he wants to win. That’s the reason he is the best in the world.

“I would like all my players to be like that.”
