Lionel Messi escaped unharmed after a schoolboy attempted to punch the Barcelona star while he was signing autographs in Argentina.

The youth swung at Messi outside a restaurant in his hometown of Rosario on Thursday night. It’s believed he is a supporter of local side Rosario Central, rivals of Messi’s old club Newell’s Old Boys, during his early years.

Messi said: “I didn’t feel a thing and I only found out after all the kerfuffle, it was nothing. I wasn’t even touched.”

He added on his Facebook pag: “To relax all those people that have asked us about the truth of the accident coming out of the restaurant, tell them I did not receive any blow from anyone. I’m perfectly OK.”
