neymar-barcelonaBarcelona star Neymar is stalling over new contract talks at Barcelona, according to reports.

The La Liga giants are keen to tie the striker down beyond the end of his current contract which expires in 2018.

Barca are even willing to offer improved terms after the Brazilian’s performances in the last campaign but Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo say the player is in no such rush.

The report also sheds more light on Manchester United’s interest, insisting enquiries were made in the summer but nothing came to fruition.

Neymar apparently told friends he considered moving to Old Trafford in the transfer window.

United were reportedly ready to pay a stunning £240million fee to lure him from the Nou Camp, while Spanish football expert Guillem Balague claims it is a move the player would “categorically consider”.

Talks are said to have taken place between the two parties and despite United’s apparent interest, the 23-year-old admitted there was no no concrete offer.

“We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete,” he told ESPN Brasil. “I heard that there were offers, but none made it to me.”

The latest update will be of interest to Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal, whose side look light up front despite the £36million signing of Anthony Martial.

While the Frenchman, 19, has adapted well to life in the Premier League, the only other alternatives are a misfiring Wayne Rooney, 29, and the untested James Wilson, 19.

Reports suggest Barca are still hopeful of successfully tying down Neymar despite the stand-off, with the club ready to make him one of their highest-paid players on £200,000 a week.
