Manchester United and Manchester City are anxiously waiting on a decision on top target Alexis Sanchez today – as Barcelona make a new increased bid for the Chilean star.

The biggest transfer tug-of-war of the summer is about to reach its climax as Udinese officials meet Sanchez’s agent today to discuss the offers and settle his future.

Barca have made an increased bid of £28 million, which includes £5 million in installments, as they hang on to their bid for the exciting attacking midfielder.

Sanchez is waiting on word to fly in to join one of the three super powers as his advisers seek a quick answer before he starts playing for Chile in the Copa America.

Sources close to Sanchez claim he is wary of Barca because he would not play on a regular basis and would need to be ‘sold’ on that move. He has also kept City at bay and would prefer United if they can agree a fee.

Cash-rich City have offered £27 million in one payment while United are up to the same guaranteed figure but in staged payments. Both are geared to be asked for more money today.

The pressure is also on as City supremo Garry Cook is under massive strain to pull off the transfer ahead of rivals United whose negotiator David Gill has met all of the parties – but may yet go higher.

Both City and United know that Sanchez is worth the inflated fee in the current market. Alternatives like Luka Modric and Samir Nasri are even harder deals to do.
