Barcelona today claimed they had rejected a £27million offer from Chelsea for David Villa.

The Nou Camp side briefed the Catalan media that Chelsea made a formal call to Barca sporting director Andobni Zubizarreta last week putting their bid on the table.

According to Barcelona, Chelsea’s inquiry was immediately rebuffed, with the Stamford Bridge outfit informed that Villa’s buy-out clause stands at a ridiculous £178m and that there was no point in any further negotiation.

Chelsea are definitely in the hunt for one Barcelona target, Udinese’s Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez, who wants to move to the Champions League winners.

While Chelsea and Manchester City have outbid Barcelona for Sanchez, the South American has made it clear that he is not interested in moving to the Premier League.
