Cristiano Ronaldo has dismayed football fans in Manchester after ruling out a return to Manchester United or a controversial move to their bitter rivals Manchester City.

The Portuguese striker has insisted he will stay at Real Madrid despite interest from both Premier League teams.

The 27-year-old left United in an astonishing £80million deal in the summer of 2009 and has excelled at the Bernabeu under Jose Mourinho.

‘I’m always growing, season after season,’ Ronaldo said. ‘At Real Madrid I always have to improve to compete with my peers.

‘For me it is amazing. I’m always learning and I want to continue. I am very happy.’

The attacker has a remarkable 38 goals in 34 appearances for Real Madrid this season, topping the La Liga scoring chart with 32 goals – two more than Lionel Messi.
