Chelsea defender David Luiz has revealed he turned down an offer to sign for Barcelona this summer to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The 26 year-old says he was offered the chance to move to Camp Nou during the transfer window but is content with life at the Blues.

Speaking ahead of Brazil’s friendly against Australia, Luiz told Gazeta Esportiva: “There was an official offer from Barcelona, but I decided to stay at Chelsea.

“I am happy to play for a big club and be in the national team to represent my country.”

Barcelona made several attempts to strengthen their defence this summer including moves for Paris Saint Germain’s Thiago Silva and Liverpool’s Daniel Agger.
