Liverpool have jumped to the front of the queue for Victor Valdes’ signature and are reportedly in talks with the Barcelona goalkeeper.

The Spain international is widely expected to bring the curtain down on his 12-year spell at the Camp Nou and it is likely he will be inundated with offers.Valdes, who has amassed 11 honours during his glittering career at Barcelona and has become the club’s undisputed number one.

The 32-year-old was tipped to join Monaco last summer, but he decided to see out his contract which expires this summer.

Spanish paper Sport ascertains Liverpool submitted a fresh proposal to Valdes, though it is unclear about the nature of the terms being offered.

They also claim Brendan Rodgers was keen on Valdes last summer, and is thought to be optimistic of beating Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain to his signature.Having only brought in Simon Mignolet in the summer, it is thought Rodgers views Valdes as an upgrade.

Whether he can claw Valdes away from the reigning La Liga champions remains to be seen.
