Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina could be on his way back to Barcelona at the end of the season after a £4m deal was agreed.

Reports in Spain suggest that Reina, currently on loan with Napoli, will make the move to the Camp Nou as Barca seek a replacement for the outgoing Victor Valdes.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are turning to the 31-year-old Reina as a cheap option with doubts emerging over big-money moves for Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Chelsea’s Thibault Courtois.

Reina’s contract at Anfield runs until 2016, but Liverpool are thought to be ready to cut ties with Belgian keeper Simon Mignolet now firmly established as number one under Brendan Rodgers.

Barcelona will reportedly pay £2m up front and a further £2m a year down the track to sign Reina, who started his career at the club before moving to Villarreal in 2002.

Napoli have already confirmed that Reina will return to Liverpool at the end of his loan spell but it seems that he won’t be sticking around on Merseyside, with a move back to his homeland all but finalised.

However, even though Reina has his heart set on a return to Barcelona other clubs could yet try and muscle in on the deal given the relatively low fee involved.
