Manchester City are preparing to break the bank to land Cristiano Ronaldo according to internet reports.

The cash-rich Premier League side are said to be putting together an eye-watering financial package that will offer Real Madrid a world record-equalling £80m for the player, and Ronaldo himself wages of between £400k and £500k-a-week.

City owner Sheik Mansour is known to be a big admirer of the Portuguese star and has shown interest in bringing him back to the Premier League before.

Ronaldo himself later claimed that he could have doubled his money by moving to the Etihad . There were also rumours City tried to tempt the player by sending him a picture of a Bentley filled with cash .

Nothing came to fruition, of course, and Ronaldo went on to enjoy another stunning seasons with Real Madrid, scoring 45 goals from 43 appearances in all competitions.

And now, it’s claimed, Manchester City are prepared to move again.

The website Goal.com quotes a source close to the Real Madrid star as saying: “The signs now from the Ronaldo camp are surprisingly more positive.

“The contact has taken place in the last few weeks and there is serious chatter in the corridors at the Etihad, akin to when City tried to sign Kaka from AC Milan a few years back.

“City want a marquee signing this summer to confirm their emergence as serious players among football’s elite.

“Ideally, they would do so from a position of strength as Premier League champions but whatever happens in the title race they want to send out a statement of intent.

“Ronaldo is the one they have wanted for a long time. They know they will not get Lionel Messi.”
