Real Madrid have launched a £73m bid for Liverpool hitman Luis Suarez.

Suarez pledged his future to Liverpool last December, signing a new four-and-a-half-year contract to stay at Anfield. The Uruguayan, 27, scored 31 times during the 2013/14 campaign as Liverpool just missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.

Suarez’s form has not gone unnoticed and Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has made him his No.1 summer transfer target.

And according to the Italian newspaper, Gazzetta dello Sport, Madrid have wasted no time in stepping up their pursuit of the Liverpool forward.

The report claims Madrid have made a £73m bid for Suarez, who is currently preparing for the World Cup having recently undergone knee surgery on an injury sustained during the final game of the season against Newcastle.

It is understood the bid represents Madrid’s first proposal and the European champions are willing to raise their offer as Ancelotti attempts to lure his top target to the Bernabeu.Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is desperate to keep hold of Suarez and has made it clear he wants to build a team around his talisman.

Southampton ace Rickie Lambert has already moved to Liverpool this summer and will soon be joined by Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can after a transfer was agreed, subject to documentation being completed.

Rodgers is almost certain to do his upmost to keep Suarez at Liverpool this summer, even with Madrid willing to bid up to £100m to get their man.
