World football’s governing body FIFA has announced Steven Pienaar as its ambassador for the Football for Hope programme.

The Bafana Bafana star midfielder says he feels honoured. “It is a real honour to work as an ambassador for FIFA. Of course FIFA could have asked any other person, but they chose me and I’m really honoured and will do all I can to help,” ‘Schillo’ said.

“Football meant everything to me in my childhood. Football was a school of life which also allowed me to become what I am today.

“I am an avid believer in Fifa’s Football for Hope programme, because it uses the beautiful game of football to bring young people closer to education and health services, as well as teach them the values of fair play,” he told FIFA.com.

Football for Hope was created as a unique and global movement that uses the power of football to achieve sustainable social development

Its objective is to bring together, support, advise and strengthen sustainable social and human development programmes in the areas of peace, children’s rights and education, health, anti-discrimination and social integration as well as the environment.
