Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Matthew Pattison believes the Brazilians are the new favourites for the PSL title after they made it four successive wins by beating Vasco da Gama 1-0 on Wednesday.

Ian Gorowa’s men moved ahead of Orlando Pirates on goal difference after Ajax Cape Town’s sensational 3-0 victory on the same night, meaning the Urban Warriors have a two-point advantage with just four matches remaining.

But with Foppe de Haan’s side due to travel to face Sundowns when the League programme resumes on April 6, Pattison is confident his side will gain an advantage.”I think we are the favourites at the moment,” he told KickOff.com.

“If we can get a result against Ajax then I think we will kick on from there because we have got the squad to cope with any injuries or suspensions better than anyone else.

“Ajax have been playing some top football and they have some great young players at the moment. But we have the momentum right now after four wins in a row, even if we haven’t played that well in any of those games.”

The former Newcastle United and Norwich City player was a notable omission from Pitso Mosimane’s Bafana Bafana squad this week. But despite missing out on the chance to play against Egypt at Ellis Park next Saturday, Pattison vowed to prove his worth by winning the PSL title for his club.

“It’s just one of those things – there are lots of midfielders competing for the same positions but the best thing I can do is to win the League for Sundowns,” he said.

“It was disappointing not to be involved (in Bafana) but it was something I just have to put behind me and move forward.”The whole thing is out of my hands so all I can do is keep trying to play well for my club,” he added.
