Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa believes the side have the ability to go on and win the CAF Champions League after booking their place in the semi-finals on Sunday.

The Buccaneers played out a goalless draw in their final Group A clash against Al Ahly on Sunday, with that result enough to send the pair through to the last-four following the Zamalek’s 4-1 win over AC Leopards in the day’s other encounter.

The Sea Robbers will now face Tunisian giants and two-time continental kings Esperance in the semis, but Meyiwa believes the Soweto giants are capable of downing any team they come up against.

“When the draw for the group stages and preliminary rounds was announced, none gave us a chance to survive against the likes of Zamalek, Al Ahly and even TP Mazembe – we defied the odds not by luck or coincidence – we worked hard and fought hard for what we wanted to achieve,” Meyiwa told his club’s official website.

“The going was tougher – now it is another challenge which I think we can very well take on and triumph. We are now up against Esperance, another tough and respected team in the continent, but we know what to expect from the North Africans in this tournament,” he added.

“For them the African Champions League is their pride – they want to win all the time, but we will go to them humbled but determined to cause yet another upset in this tournament.”
