Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs travel to the FNB Stadium on Saturday as the two PSL titans gear up for one of Africa’s greatest sporting events.

The Premiership giants have contested 36 Soweto derby matches over the last decade alone, with Chiefs just edging their bitter rivals by 13 wins to 11, while 12 of those matches have ended in draws.

This weekend’s encounter should prove just as dramatic as ever before, with Amakhosi and the Buccaneers level on points in the Premiership standings, while victory for either side at Soccer City could see them close the gap on leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to one point.

Pirates, though, seem to have had their foundations firmly shaken over the past week, with the club having temporarily sacked coach Julio Leal, while their midweek outing to Santos ended in misery as they crashed to a 3-0 defeat in Cape Town.

The knocks have kept coming for Bucs in the build-up to this weekend’s mouth-watering encounter, with a raft of first-team players set to miss out through injury.

January signing and world footballing icon Luis Boa Morte will play no part in the clash, with the former Arsenal man struggling with injury, while captain Lucky Lekgwathi, Rudolf Bester, Thulasizwe Mbuyane and Taltou Boubacar are all named on the casualty list.

One boost for interim coach Augusto Palacios is the return of Andile Jali, who was forced to sit out the defeat to the People’s Team through suspension.

For Chiefs, coach Vladimir Vermezovic has just two injury set-backs to contend with, with Thomas Sweswe and Reneilwe Letsholonyane long-term casualties, while the Serbian boasts an otherwise fully fit squad to choose from.
