SuperSport United goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez tips Kaizer Chiefs to lift the Premiership trophy this season.

Fernandez, who has played for the Amakhosi and Arminia Bielefeld before joining the defending PSL champions during the recent transfer window period, believes his former team is hungrier to win the title than the other challengers.

The ‘keeper won the title twice in succession with the Amakhosi in 2003/04 and 2004/05 and he is adamant that the current crop of players can do it again this season.

“It’s an open horse race right now, the five top teams can still win the League and it is very good for the League and the supporters,” he said.

“But I think Chiefs can win it in the end if they remain consistent. I watched their games and they were impressive, but like I said any one from the top five teams can still win it.

“Obviously I would love if Chiefs can win it because they have a special place in my heart, I spent many good years with them and I think they have a superior chance of winning this title looking at how they have been playing this season,” he added.

“But anything can happen Sundowns were at one stage leading the log with seven points and now they are second on the log, so if Chiefs keeps consistency they can do it,” he said.

The 32-year-old further says that the best that SuperSport can get this season is a top eight finish.

“We are taking each game as it comes, we are gradually collecting points and we will see at the end of the season where we are.

“The plan is to collect each and every point we can. It’s is difficult for us now to say we will challenge for the title because we have Sundowns, Chiefs, Ajax and Pirates all flying at the top. So we are just focusing on collecting any points possible,” he concluded.
