Bafana Bafana star Bongani Khumalo has fractured his foot playing for Championship outfit Preston North End.

Khumalo is currently on loan at Preston from English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season.

However, the former SuperSport United captain will not kick a ball again this campaign after having an operation on his foot.

A statement on Spurs’ official website reads: ‘Bongani Khumalo has undergone surgery on his left foot today (Tuesday) after an x-ray confirmed he had sustained a fracture of his fifth metatarsal.

‘The South Africa international defender, who has been on loan at Preston North-End since March, was forced off with the injury during the first half of Preston’s Championship fixture with Millwall on Saturday and is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of pre-season.’

Khumalo joined Tottenham during the January transfer window and is yet to make his debut for the White Hart Lane club.
