Kermit Erasmus looks like he will be staying at SuperSport United, after the club rejected a “ridiculous” offer from Hungarian champions Videoton.

The 20-year-old striker has returned to South Africa after going on trial in Europe and did well enough for Videoton to submit a bid of €160 000 last week.

But despite the player’s desire to return to Europe, SuperSport chief operations officer Jose Ferreira believes he is worth far more.“The offer on the table was €160 000, which we find ridiculous,” he told KickOff.com.

“We rejected it and gave them proposals for what we were prepared to accept but we have been told they are not willing to offer any more so that is the end of it as far as I’m concerned.”

Ferreira added, “I could think of 10 clubs in the PSL who would pay that amount for Kermit Erasmus. He’s a fantastic player who is young and has time on his side.”

Erasmus spent five days at French Second Division side Le Mans before his two-week trial with Videoton, who are coached by Portuguese legend Paulo Sousa.

They won their first-ever Hungarian title last season and will compete in the Uefa Champions League preliminary stages next month.

But instead of joining their training camp, Erasmus will instead report for pre-season training at SuperSport next week, according to his agent Ashley Kotzin.

“Kermit will start again with SuperSport and move on,” he said.

“I understand that the clubs got to a point where Videoton didn’t want to up the offer or make it richer for SuperSport so they moved on. But he has a lot of ability that means he will be bale to go back to Europe and develop a good career there eventually.”
