SuperSport United skipper Bongani Khumalo is set for an emotional exit from the League champions after just three more League games.

The 23-year-old defender will leaving after Christmas but before the New Year.

“I don’t think about (leaving) that often because, to be honest, the fact is that my games here are not done yet. I need to keep my focus here first before I hit the road,” said Khumalo.

Word coming out of the Matsatsantsa a Pitori camp is that Khumalo will be given a guard of honour send off and the club will party through the night to celebrate the departure of their young and exciting defender after their last game.

The Swaziland-born Bafana Bafana international is flattered by news of the send-off before boards the plane to the UK to join his new club Tottenham Hotspur.

“I didn’t expect anything but the guys are more than welcome to throw a party for me if they are up to it,” he told KickOff.com.

Khumalo has recovered just in time to wear the armband in his last three matches but for him to play the full 90 minutes in each game will be a big ask.

“I still feel a little bit of pain, but it is stable and I want to get back into the thick of things again. I want to feel match sharp again and it won’t be easy. But then, all I know is that I just want to play.

”Commenting on the search for his successor, the former University of Pretoria defender describes the type of player that he wishes coach Gavin Hunt will sign.

“It has to a player with the right frame of mind and attitude. I mean when I first came here, that’s what I was told and that’s what I worked on. And I was fortunate to win with that mentality, so whoever comes in must come with the right mentality. We call it a winning mentality.

”Khumalo also says he has following Spurs progress in the English Premier League and has been talking Bafana icon Lucas Radebe as well as his current national teammates, Aaron Mokeona and Steven Pienaar.

“It has been nothing special, just a friendly chat.”Khumalo says he does not know the precise date of his departure.

“All I have been told is that it will after Christmas but I will not be celebrating New Year at home with my family. So I will treasure Christmas with my family before I enter a new dawn in my life,” he added.
