Chelsea pair Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka are on AC Milan’s radar as the Italian giants search for a replacement for Antonio Cassano.

Italy international Cassano is out until next year after heart surgery and it is unknown at this stage exactly how long he will be sidelined for.

Milan will look to add a striker in January although vice president Adriano Galliani stopped short of suggesting any concrete bid.

Drogba is out of contract at the end of the season and is looking for a new two-year deal although the Blues are offering a just a year. Anelka is also out of contract and is expected to leave.

Galliani said: ‘It is said that someone will arrive but Santa is still far away. ‘First we must evaluate the condition of Cassano, given that we have guaranteed a jersey holder.

‘Anelka is an important player, but I was in love with Drogba when he was at Marseille. But we are not looking at one player in particular.’

Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is convinced Drogba and Anelka could do a job at his former club Milan.

He said: ‘They are great players, in good physical condition. They are players of great quality and attitude.

‘I see both fitting in very well at Milan but that does not mean one of the two are going to go.’
