Mario Balotelli has already created controversial headlines in Italy since his move to Serie A last week – but this time it’s not his fault.

The striker is at the centre of a racism storm after AC Milan vice-president Paolo Berlusconi – younger brother of the club president and former Italian PM Silvio – made a shocking public remark about the 22-year-old.

Berlusconi junior described Balotelli as “negretto di famiglia” – translated as “the family’s little n****”.

The remark was captured on video by reporters at a political meeting Berlusconi was attending in Monza near Milan.

The clip is being shown on the website of Italian newspaper La Repubblica and has caused a storm in Italy just a few weeks after Milan’s midfielder Kevin Prince-Boateng was praised by Silvio Berlusconi for walking off the pitch after being racially abused during a friendly match.

Paolo Berlusconi was attending a rally for a candidate for his brother’s right-wing People of Freedom party when he made the comments.

He said: “Okay, we are all off to see the family’s little n****. He’s a crazy head. All the young ladies are invited as well – you can even have a chance to meet the president (Silvio Berlusconi).”

Italy international Balotelli joined AC Milan from Manchester City on transfer deadline day last week and scored twice on his debut against Udinese at the weekend – click here to watch his goals.
