gonzalo-higuain-napoli3Chelsea are reportedly ready to fight Arsenal and Manchester United for Gonzalo Higuain.

Jose Mourinho has asked Stamford Bridge chiefs to bring the Napoli striker to the club, according to the Metro.

It is claimed the Blues boss is looking to add another striker to his squad following their poor start to the season.

Argentina international Higuain has a release clause worth £63.9m and the Serie A side are not interested in selling their star man.

But the Metro claim Chelsea are willing to pay the eye-watering amount for the 27-year-old.

They will also have to see off interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United, who have also been linked with a move for his signature.

Earlier this month, Higuain snubbed a one-year contract extension.

His brother and agent Nicolas Higuain said: “We had a meeting with the [Napoli] president [Aurelio De Laurentiis] in Venice 10 days ago.

“We talked about everything. He offered a one-year contract extension, but in my opinion – and ours – we will continue with the original contract, expiring in 2018.

“The contract isn’t that different to the one we signed before, so for us it’s not a real offer. We are calm and happy to continue with the current conditions.

“At the moment, we have faith that Gonzalo will stay at Napoli, with a team which is 100 per cent focused and can win something.”
