Chelsea want Gianfranco Zola to return to Stamford Bridge as a coach, according to Sky Sports.

The former West Ham boss spent seven years at the club as a player and was even voted the club’s greatest ever player by supporters.

Current manager Carlo Ancelotti is thought to be likely to be sacked this summer after he failed to win any trophies this season, but according to Sky, Zola is not being lined up as a replacement for the Italian.

Instead, it is thought the club want him to take a coaching role as part of the set up under the new boss.

Sky claim Zola has not yet been contacted by Chelsea and a club spokesman said the club would not comment on “speculation”.
