Inter Milan have apparently been given renewed encouragement to lodge a bid for Newcastle midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa.

The 26-year-old’s form at St James’ Park has stagnated this season with the Frenchman singled out for criticism by Alan Pardew in the aftermath of their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Tottenham. Moreover, despite the £20 million departure of Yohan Cabaye to Paris Saint-Germain, Ben Arfa has often been overlooked by Pardew in favour of Yoan Gouffran and Moussa Sissoko.

But according to reports, Pardew is planning a major overhaul of the squad in the summer and Ben Arfa doesn’t appear to be fit in with his long-term vision for the club.

Inter were thought to be keen on Ben Arfa during the January transfer window, but made no attempt to sign him. However, it seems their desire to bring him to the San Siro hasn’t sated. It is also thought that Newcastle are keen to recoup the £7 million they paid out to Marseille to bring Ben Arfa to Tyneside three years ago.

Ben Arfa has contributed just three goals in 25 appearances so far this season for the Magpies.
