Italian giants Juventus have made a last ditch bid to snatch Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain.

Juve held face to face talks with Real Madrid striker Higuain’s father and agent Jorge yesterday as they are keen on the Argentine striker.

But Juventus claim no deal can be done until Real Madrid appoint a new manager with Carlo Ancelotti favourite to replace Jose Mourinho. Swansea boss Michael Laudrup could also be a contender.

Juventus general manger Beppe Marotta: “Real Madrid can’t sell Higuain while there is no manager. When the new manager is announced, we’ll meet them again.”

Arsenal are hopeful of making Higuain, 26, their first big stellar signing and Arsene Wenger has held two rounds of talks.

Higuain is the most likely striker on Arsenal’s radar as Chelsea, Paris Saint Germain and Monaco all want Manchester United’s unsettled Wayne Rooney.

Juventus are also keen on Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic and there are big doubts over whether they could do both.

Juve were keen on Robin van Persie last summer but never came up with a decent offer so it remains to be seen if they will bid £20m-plus for Higuain.

Arsenal also rate Everton’s Marouane Fellaini highly and he has a £22m buy out clause. QPR keeper Julio Cesar fancies a move to Arsenal and informal talks have taken place.
