Former Barcelona youth star Keita Balde Diao is under the watchful eye of Liverpool’s talent spotters after the teen’s impressive first appearances for Lazio’s senior team over the past week.

Sky Sports Italia reports Brendan Rodgers’ scouts were looking at the 18-year-old when he made his full debut in the light blue and provided the assist for the only goal of the game in Lazio’s 1-0 win over Legia Warsaw in the Europa League.

The Catalan-born striker with Senagalese parents left Barca in disgrace after playing a prank – putting an ice cube in a teammate’s bed – on tour in Qatar with the youth team.

Although considered a first team mainstay in the making, the joke saw the then 15-year-old Keita sent on loan to lower league side Cornella, where he scored 47 goals in a youth team season.

After interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United at various stages, Keita was signed to Lazio on a contract until June 2017.

With the deal costing the Serie A club just £250,000, it’s believed Liverpool could get him on the cheap and provide another speedy attacking option to Rodgers’ arsenal.

Rodgers’ staff would have raised a positive eyebrow this week as Keita set up Brazilian midfielder Hernanes in just his second appearance for the Rome-based club’s senior side, his first off the bench just five days earlier.
