Dirk Kuyt will be the surprise casualty as Liverpool look to rebuild their squad in the summer.

The Dutch striker has just 12 months left on his current contract and though he’d love to sign a new deal, he has warned it will only be if he gets regular game time.

That seems unlikely with boss Kenny Dalglish relegating the forward to the subs bench. Kuyt, 31, could join a possible available list that also contains Maxi Rodriguez and Fabio Aurelio as the Reds seek to cut their wage bill.

In six years at Anfield, Kuyt has won just one trophy, the recent Carling Cup triumph, but despite scoring in the final, he did so only as a second-half substitute.

Fiorentina and Galatasaray are long-term admirers, with Roma recently signalling their interest. But his former club Feyenoord offers another possibility. Sporting Director Martin van Geel said Kuyt would “be welcome back at De Kuip stadium any time.”

Liverpool will be looking for new talent. They’ve watched Feyenoord’s Tonny de Vilhena, 17, a midfielder, and Crewe’s teenage duo Dan Smith and Nick Powell.
