Juventus have stepped up their interest in Manchester United prospect Adnan Januzaj and made it clear they want to open talks about signing him in the New Year.

Sportsmail revealed earlier this month that the Serie A giants were planning to plunder Old Trafford’s stock of teenage talent for a second time, after they lured Paul Pogba to Turin, despite Sir Alex Ferguson’s best efforts to tie him to a new long-term deal.

Now Ferguson’s successor David Moyes is facing a repeat scenario after Juve targeted Januzaj and sent out a signal they intend exploiting his contract stand-off with United.

Sportsmail understands word has reached Januzaj’s agent that Juventus coach Antonio Conte wants to adds the 18-year old to his title-winning squad and is eager to begin contract negotiations as soon as possible.

That could be in a matter of months, unless United can come up with a package that is acceptable to the Belgian teenager and persuades him to end a deadlock over his future that has lasted since April.

Juventus are acutely aware that Barcelona are also interested in Januzaj, while Manchester City have been strongly linked with a move for him. Sources in Belgium and Italy have repeatedly included City among his admirers, though Etihad sources have denied the claims.

There is no mistaking Juventus mean business, after being alerted to the continuing stalemate between United and one of their brightest prospects in years. United are determined to resolve it, but the attacking midfielder continues to hold out over a new deal, as he seeks assurances over his chances of an active role in their title defence.

As the talks go on, Juve are manoeuvring themselves into position, ready to offer him lucrative personal terms and a promise that he can emulate Pogba, who has become an integral part of their midfield.
